This week's drawing assignment

This week we learned about perspective. We drew some boxes and building. My instructor commented that "You had some crazy ideas" when I was lying underneath a stair case and drew it. Normally people would go for something slightly more typical such as a room or a corridor. Well, I'm whacky. Also, due to my unfortunate rejection of Japan VISA in New York, I had some pretty inspirational as well

This is my last week drawings. There were some compliment for the bowling ball and the leather. The rest is quite crappy. I didn't have enough time to finished it :p

After Japan consulate refused to give me VISA to visit Japan because I didn't have 5000USD in my account, I was sad and upset. It was just another dream for me to go Japan. This is the drawing inspired from that event. It's a torn map of Japan, named "Broken Dreams"
My lovely studio
The stair case. The fine arts stair case right from the floor where a lot of people passed me by and threw me a weird look...

A very quick sketch I produced on SEPTA 111 bus

A few quick sketches I produced in less than 10 minutes each inside Central Park, New York City. I was so upset I just keep drawing and drawing and drawing. Drawing is really a very good psycho therapy, really.

A quick sketch while my instructor was away in another room. This is the projector under the chair and the table in the studio

This is the identity I created for our 446 project group . The name came from Deliang (although I would much prefer my super cool LAPD name). Professional looking, aren't they? Hehe

A study of my own emotions

Remember how you used to complain this is my blog and you have never seen my freaking face at all? Here is a study of myself. I was taking photo of myself for my VISA to Japan, and then I got playful. Beware of a BORED & STRESS artist!!! Haha
I took the photos by timer and got them editted in photoshop. The idea is not that original cos a lot of people have used it before, but I think my cuteness made it original. Don't you think? I hope you like it. I'm so ugly but adorable. Hhaahhahahaha

The first step

These are my first week assignment. I finished them all today. First time I'm so enthu in doing homework!!! Not very polished yet, but I'll improve along the way I guess.
First up, my temporary studio on dinner table

Assignment 1 "Gestures"
In this assignment we are supposed to look inside a human and capture the core of his/her activity. Each figure only allows at most 30 seconds to draw and must capture an action.

Assignment 2 "Contour drawing"
Use 1 line and draw a portrait of a person. Imagine if an ant keep running through your face and you have to trace its path. This is to practice seeing the surface and the outmost of a person, judging the up and down of a surface. This is my brother's portrait. I hope they look a little bit alike

Assignment 3 "Shading scale"
A 10 step scale of shades

Assignment 4 "The egg"
The name tells it all. Draw an egg within a single source light. I used my lamp :)

Drawing - The story of life

I attended my first drawing class at Penn today. I was so excited and so happy. Finally accomplished my childhood dream to pursue arts.
The module is super taxing: 100 sketches, 80 homework, 1 final project, 3 field trips and 20 class drawings in just 20 weeks. But I had fun
So this is my today's entry for this "drawing log book" of the module. It's called "Freedom Delusion", the delusion of us having to be free, yearning to fly uphigh in the sky with our own wings. The cell is social expectation, norms and prejudices that lock us and stops us from being free.

Compared to a piece I did last year in 5 minute during a speed assignment. You can see the similarity and the progress between the 2 pieces. This one is called "Light"

My drawing is so much lousier than my photography, isn't it?

The chosen photo will also be featured in the up-coming annual photography book called "Endless Journey". First I want to thank Cyclop for his wonderful work and then my dear Sofia for her wonderful editting. You saw it, now I will present it to you again.

Must love dogs
These are the photos I took yesterday during the dog shows. I've never seen so many dogs before in my life. Haha it's so unbelievable. And so cute too. I got about 100 dogs photo (Deliang included. Hehee)

"Innocence"
A little Asian girl with a black Angmo dog. How inspiring...

"Dance! Dance!"
3 kids dancing right in front of the outdoor stage where the singers sing about, of course, dogs.

"Adopt me"
A blind dog that is presented so that people will adopt him. Well, if I stay here permanently I may have considered. But too bad I don't. The dog looks so strong, but it can only sees shadow and can only sniff his way through the crowd.

"The photographer"
Kinda fun seeing another photographer at work. Did anyone outthere take my photos?

"Angel in America"
Dog in Angel costume

"Go Eagles! Go!"
A cheerleader for Eagles America football team, who used to suck a few years back, and is having their first match today. The dog is the runner up for "Best dressed" category.

"Cool dude"
A dog dressed in Harvey motocyclist jacket and shades. How cool! he won "Best dressed" dog

"Pirate of the Caribbean's...Pet"
The pet of Captain Jack Sparrow.

"Des Diva"
The winner of "Best Themed" category. She's such a scary diva. Somehow remind me of Weijia. Haahahahahha

"Dogterfly"
A butterfly/dog hybrid. The dog looks almost cute. Think this is the second runner up for "Best dressed"

"Sunshine"
Cute girl and cute dogs always go together. So cuuuuuuteeeeeee!!!

"Look-alike"
They are the winners for Best look alike category. The dog has the same headband and hairstyle as her owner

"Must love Adrian"
Still don't quite get it? Check the title again :)

New York revisited

Sorry again for my long absence. These 2 weeks have been crazy for me. I work so much I thought I would have gond insane. Anyway here are our New York trip photos last week. Enjoy

"Welcome to Manhattan"
The blur tourist (Just like it) at the welcome sign of Manhattan

"Flare"
Sun flare on a building

"Manhattan habor"
A view of NYC from a Ferry

"Yellow cab"
Do you watch Friends? This is the cab Phoebe drives. It's a signature of New York City. We sat in it this time.

"The lady"
Another icon of New York that doesn't need words to describe

"Zaha Hadid"
It's a very famous museum with the building structure itself as a curve like a snail. Think Ting gonna scream if she sees so many curves inside ONE building

"Times square"
Another famoust site that you can't forget when visiting New York

"Sushi"
First round of my sushi buffet for only $10 at New York. Yummmmmmmy

"Untilted Romance"
Just feel something very romantic about this photo. A guy and a girl standing in a harbor. You can't se their face (of course I know who they are). The girl looks down to the water, but her posture makes it seem like praying. The guy look to the horizon, and his posture looks like he's missing for someone. We don't know what they are doing and we keep on guessing. I think I watched too many lame Korean dramas.
