Portraits of Life

I learned portrait yesterday in Arts class. We are required to did 3 self portraits, first one as draft, second one as expression and last one is dramatic lighting. It's a terrible thing to have to stare at yourself in the mirror for 5 houes. First, you have to look at an ugly person for 5 hours. You have to admit that you are ugly and lastly, have to put that down to paper to make everyone else realize that you are ugly.

These are a few pieces I did this week.

The mask

Journey to Fairytown

Once upon a fall...
The sun shines through the trees,
and the stairway leads us to heaven
The color turns
And we start to see...

We hide behind rocks
and seek the lakes reflection of the sky.


We let our eyes go as far as they can.

To where the man becomes insignificant in front of nature

Birds become white dots
Until we reach the deep blue sea
shining drops of sun light
playfully hit their waves to the shore
We saw rocks that pierce the sea
together they play an extravaganza
We see nature even in our artificial things
or together with it
Water that turns to dream like mist
bridges that cross reality and dreams
moss that grows to fill the dead and cold grey rocks
Lights that reflected through the yellow dying leaves
We saw footsteps of fall, yellow, vivid and shining
We saw the lonly chair knocked over with its shadow spread along the prairie
We saw leaves that turned
We saw leaf that fell
And we saw the last glorified moment of the sun
Before it gave in to the night
The rock filled with a sorrowful cast of yellow
And there we say goodbye to happily ever after...

Pace's Anatomy

Today's topic of drawing is: Body parts. Actually I haven't learned about the human face and the human body anatomy in class yet, so please pardon my lousy technical skills. Furthermore, these were drawn at about 10 minutes per drawing so it's really very draft. it's just an idea, an expression that I used to express what I saw and what I felt. Normally I tend to walk you through what I drew and why I drew them, but to they will just be title, you will have to figure the rest. Also , the body part is from who will be kept a mystery too :)
P.S: Sorry about the quality of the photos. Somehow the scans turned out too dark. It's supposed to be white. I think blogger or my comp messed sth up

I really have an eye for Fashion! You know, my prediction for Project Runway results (http://pacevolution.blogspot.com/2006/10/project-runway-place-for-creativity-to.html) was 100% correct!!! Jeffrey won, Uli next, Laura 3rd and Michael last!!! Feel so proud that I actually DO have Fashion view (at least similar to Michael Kors and Nina Garcia). I think I'm gonna SKETCH Jeffrey's entire collection (except for the ugly blue dress that would make even the skinniest girl look fat). Actually Uli's stuffs did appear much nicer in real life when they move and flow, but well, guess Jeff's stuffs are way more innovative.
Well, I'm just happy. Hehe! It proves even a wacko asshole, as long as you have a statement to make and pursue what you really want to, you can do what you dream of.
Also, Bravo to Uli, I'm really really really impressed by both of them. Still, I think Chloe's clothes are better than both :p

Superheroes

Yes, it's today drawings insiration: Bleeding Superheroes. I drew these 2 drawings on the bus when it was raining horribly and the thought of heroes struck me as I was thinking about my Halloween Costume. They were both done by memory and imagination, no reference images and all. Nathan (my instructor) is so gonna kill me for these. The drawing is comic style and not drawing style, the proportion, shadows, shading, everything is wrong... But I guess it suits my feeling of love and life right now. Even superheroes bleed. I'm just a mortal man struggling with me own feelings...

Superman
The man of steel down on his knee and bleeding while his love is turning away from him. I guess NeeRaj will be so mad if he knows I'm representing his Superman this way. But I guess everyman has a sentimental side and it's not fair he has to save the world and he has to be always tough and emotionless...


Wolverine
The most tragic moment in X3-The last stand. Not because in this moment Gean is dead. The director killed like half of my favorite characters during the show. It's tragic because Wolverine had to kill Gean himself. It's hard to love some one. It hurts to see someone you love and care deeply about get hurt. But it's the most tragic thing when you know you are the one hurting them. That's how I feel right now...


There you go, the blood, the tears, the rain of even the toughest, strongest guy in the world. And there I wished my wounds would heal as fast as Wolverine's. But I guess some wounds just will never heal...

A hero is...replicated

Finally finished my claws. Haha feel so proud. This is the first half of my Halloween Costume. I think gonna put on shirts and motocyclist leather jacket to replicate more correctly. This one I look like a starved Wolverine with a big belly. Hehe. And the hair is so uncool. I'm so gonna gel to the 2 sides and take a few photos, now that the stupid Halloween party is moved to another day and I can't attend (Seriously people, when can we get out of the NUS way of doing things? Always last minute cancel or change because of someone one. I thought we aim to be young and sucessful professionals???)

The landscapes of Penn

To someone who have been to U Penn before, they would most probably recognize these 2 landscapes. 1 at the Love Sign and 1 at the Kelly writer's House. The LOVE sign is not quite done yet. I'll finish it during Fall Break. The Kelly Writer House received an 8/10 grades, which made me very very happy!!! Yay!!!
Both were drawn outdoor in super cold weather. The Kelly writer House one was drawn when it was raining so u can see a few unwanted dots there. Both were drawn in Charcoal in 18 inch * 24 inch size papers.

I love creating things, be it a costume, a huge FLOAT from trash and cardboard, a meal, a design, a painting, a drawing, a photograph, or even just a post of blog. I love creating weird, provokative and "my" thing.
This is last week meal on Wednesday. I tend to make my meals very fancy in presentation and give them names. To make it more as a creation

Snow flakes falling on the Lotus
How to cook: black fungus + salmon + white fungus + oyster sauce -> Steam
Why I call it arts: the salmon is cut as 5 petals and arranged as a lotus. The black fungus texture is very close to lotus leaves. And tiny little white flakes of white fungus make it looks like snow flakes
In the absence of spring...
How to cook: salmon + boiled carrots + boiled potatos + ripe grapes + ripe apples + oyster sauce -> Bake
Why I call it arts: Looks like spring is gone isn't it? The dried and darkened apples peieces. The salmon is deep asleep under. And just admit it, it's so colorful :)

Wolverine in the making
Halloween party is coming. What will I be coming as? Wolverine. Hehe I'm one of the Xmen fan. I made this entire claw myself. Pretty hard. I used cardboard and hands only. Hehe damn proud of my FLOAT skills. I also cut my old gloves off and stich it back together by my sewing kit. Yes, I know basic sewing. Actually one of my secret Arts wish is to learn Fashion Design. Sort of fall in love with it while helping my sis coloring her designs. Actually with my drawing basics and my wacko ideas, think I only need to learn how to sew can alr leh. Hehe... Then maybe I can participate in project runway. :p Dream on... Actually the claw is not quite done yet, still have some coloring and stuffs. Haha, cant wait to jump in my tank top and my leather jacket!!!
OK, enough of boasting. Time for me to ZZZZ. Good night world. I'm gonna create something new tomorrow...I promise...

Project Runway - A place for creativity to shine

Hey! Normally I'll post my own work here but I think it's time to embrace creativity from everywhere. Today will be about the show I absolutely love to watch "Project Runway". And for those who thought Project Runway is too sissy, suck it up because top 2 designers this season are straight guys.
So this season is coming to an end, and here are my picks from the top 4 (Each of them had a total of 12 garments). Think the order is Jeff > Uli > Laura > Micheal. Jeff should win!
Totally love Jeffrey's collection. It's provocative, creative and way beyond what he had already demonstrated the whole season. It's very different from the rest. He's a runaway from home kid, punk rocker, ex-drug addict and he has a 5 years old son. Although he appeared to be an ass all show long but he's the most true person in the show. Everyone comes to win, and to admit that is to be a real designer.
The best garment in all collections. It's very unlike Jeff. Very bright and shiny. Apparently he's trying to recreate the coutour winning look. He succeeded. All the lines are made by green zippers. Super cool dress...
Another totally out of Jeff's character. Very sweet and very innocent. The fabric has apples print on it. Normally Jeff goes for the gloom and doom and trashy look.
When I first saw this I thought it was Uli's. Very fluid and very eye-catching

When I first saw this I thought it was Micheal's. Looks very smart and very elegant. There's a lot of effort and also taste in this vest. Can totally see someone like my sister buying this garment and wear out. Very practical. A bravo to Jeff!!!
Uli's collection is another rocking one. But it's no surprise, it's totally her style. Very flowly, very hip, very young and very wild. Uli is the most consistent throughout the show. Her dresses always are among the top
This is the best garment from Uli. The front looks kinda normal and boring but the back is amazing...
Uli's signature: crazy prints and colors, flowy and beachy stuffs. Anyone get a fan!!!

About consistent, Laura is another very talented woman. SHe's been consistently...boring... Actually this time her collection is very pretty, sleek, classy and rich. However I can't stand her personality. He's just a judgemental rich high-class wannabe bitch. THere's a thing about me that I can't stand people who think they are all perfect and classy and start judging on others. She always say this designers stuffs look cheap, that desingers stuff looks trashy, I'm a high-class architecture and you are a dick head, blah blah blah. Cant stand her!
This is the most unpredictable garment from Laura, the rest all glamour and nice but they are all, as usual, boring...

Michael, the nice guy. Don't know what's the deal with him, his designs just get uglier by day.
This is like the least ugly dress in the entire collection. And at first I thought he could have won.

Still 1 more week until they reveal which of the 4 wins. I can't wait. I just hope they didn't kick Jeffrey out because someone else accused him for having cheated (Guess who? The rich jealous bitch of course. "I don't believe you can put up such high quality of work" What's your problem?).
Haha I so miss my sister and Wei Jia. If we watch together sure we can bitch about it together. My sister can even make some pieces out of it (Actually sent my sis all the pics so that she can make some). I used to help my sis design for her fashion design course too. I love designing...
Please let Jeff or Uli win.....Please please please....hahaha I'm such a hardcore fan!

The Arts of Shopping or MADNESS in short...

Yesterday, 9 month anniversary, I was at home alone. The guys went to Chicago for avacation. Lawrence went Canada for Business trip. So what did i do? After work I went to shop at Macy's. They were having sales so I bought tons of things. When I reached home, I felt bored and alone. When I'm bored and alone, that's a REALLY BAD sign. So I pushed all the tables away, digged out ALL my clothes, put my bed sheet on the floor, light up all the lights I can find and made my own photography studio. Of course the subject of my madness is...MYSELF (Don't really have model). I took about 20 combinations of all my clothes. Probably a very insane thing to do (and a bit kinky, I admit), but I was so bored and I really didn't feel like studying. Somemore everyone always "Yah, right!" me when I said I'm fat and I shop a lot here. Haha 2 in 1.

Shopping bags: All the shopping bags I've been collecting since the beginning of the year. What a way to celebrate 9 months anniversary. The value of all items in these bags combine will be about 800-1000USD. Hahaha crazy, huh?



Every happiness come with a Tag

Haha, suposed to have the entire porfolio of myself here, but I decided it's too...crazy. No matter how impulsive and how much an artist wants to express himself, I guess there's a certain limit as in which line to cross. So well, too bad you guys missed the chance to have a REALLY GOOD LAUGH.

After that it took me about 1 hour to clean up the mess and wash my bed sheet. Haha I'm such an impulsive idiot. But it was fun. My sister will be so proud. Hahahahah. or maybe she will just send me emails scolding me for the stupid combinations. I really want to have a photography studio and REAL models to shoot (Not myself and the stupid timer)

Fish festival

This post is dedicated to a girl who always cooked fish on Tuesday. It's our today dinner, 4 different dish with fish: Baked lemon fish, stewed terriyaki fish, fried fish stick, mushroom steamed fish. 4 different methods, taste and a few types of fish and ingredients. I cook one ok, with my tears and blood (yah i was clumsy enough to cut myself). Hahahahahaha. She sure is gonna cry of jealousy when she reads this post lah.
